I am a product and business development executive working in games for nearly sixteen years. That’s the ‘what’. As for the ‘why’…

When I turned eight, my parents bought me a SEGA Master System. Before unwrapping it, games hadn’t yet distinguished themselves from other plastic distractions in my life. That changed fast.

I was soon dissecting everything I could find in the gaming press and writing letters to developers. I didn’t know it at the tender age of 8, but I was already on the path to a career in games business development.

Over the last fifteen years, I have formed strong relationships with countless games developers. I have restructured business development departments and processes. I have led negotiations on complex deals and even more complex contract renewals. I have conducted analysis and financial modelling. I have worked in an environment where discussions with smart and fascinating people from different cultures in far flung locations is a daily pleasure.

I have done all of this because of a passion that was ignited within a few key minutes of my life in May 1990. Now in my late 30s, that passion is more acute than ever and I am lucky to be able to say, becoming an expert in my field has never felt like work. I can’t wait to see what the next sixteen years bring.

RELATIONSHIPS

I have spent 16 years talking to developers of various stripes and have established a powerful network. Making friends with great developers is the easiest part of my job.

NEGOTIATION

I believe that no negotiation should have a winner and a loser. The goal is an equitable outcome that motivates both parties to do their best work.

ANALYSIS

Financial modelling, market trend forecasting and product performance analysis are part of my daily routine.

STRATEGY

Portfolio management, capacity planning, stakeholder management and strategic partnerships have been central features of my career.

  • 2005

    2005 - 2010 Started my own game design and marketing consultancy following the award of a government grant. Clients included EA, Chillingo Steel Media, Connect 2 Media, Perfect World and Us Two.

  • 2010

    2010 - 2014 Took on a strategy and change management role at a leading F2P games company (Gameforge) before working as the 2nd hire at a games start-up. In partnership with the founder, I successfully raised seed capital and assembled a 15 man development team.

  • 2015

    2015 - 2018 Worked as a senior exec at a then leading F2P indie publishing company (Flaregames), managing large teams and restructuring the company's business development department.

  • 2020

    2018 - Present Reached the tip of the spear in mobile gaming. I have a key senior role in Scopely's business development department and continue to play my part in the company's incredible growth trajectory.
